Server Installation

install backupPC

# apt-get install backuppc

download perl plugin http://perlrsync.sourceforge.net/

tar -xvf File-RsyncP-0.68.tar.gz
cd File-RsyncP-0.68
perl Makefile.PL
make
make install

create softlink to reach backupPC under http://backuppc-host/backuppc

 ln -s /etc/backuppc/apache.conf /etc/apache/conf.d/backuppc.conf

change password for backuppc user to login under http://backuppc-host/backuppc

 htpasswd /etc/backuppc/htpasswd backuppc

reload Server

/etc/init.d/backuppc restart

install rsync

# apt-get install rsync

test with

# rsync -av username@192.168.2.37::backupshare

create a file with hostname from client

vi /etc/backuppc/hostname.pl

 # Number of full and incremental backups to keep:
$Conf{FullKeepCnt} = 1;
$Conf{IncrKeepCnt} = 6;
$Conf{XferMethod} = "rsyncd";
$Conf{RsyncdUserName} = "username";
$Conf{RsyncdPasswd} = "passwd";
$Conf{RsyncClientPath} = "/usr/bin/rsync";
#$Conf{RsyncShareName} = ["test", "notes"];
$Conf{RsyncShareName} = "backupshare";

edit hosts and add clients hostname and IP

#vi /etc/hosts

edit backuppc hosts and add clients hostname and user (normal backuppc)

# vi /etc/backuppc/hosts

Windows Client Installation

win-client download cygwin-rsyncd from http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/ und unzip to C:\rsyncd

edit c:\rsyncd\rsyncd.conf --> add the following lines to configure share which should be backuped

[backupshare]
   path = c:/backup
   comment = Folder to backup
   auth users = user
   secrets file = c:/rsyncd/rsyncd.secrets
   # hosts allow = 172.16.0.17
   strict modes = false
   read only = true
   list = false

edit the "auth user"

edit c:\rsyncd\rsyncd.secrets and set username:password

open cmd and paste the following line to set up rsyncd as a service

cd C:\rsyncd
cygrunsrv.exe -I rsyncd -e CYGWIN=nontsec -p c:/rsyncd/rsync.exe -a "--config=c:/rsyncd/rsyncd.conf --daemon --no-detach"

start service
